Br. Rafe
Yesterday, we lost a great member of the Lasallian Family. News of his disappearance and, ultimately, his death spread like a sick joke through SMS. I couldn't believe it. I refused to believe it. But reality doesn't give us much of a choice on these matters.

My earliest memory of Br. Rafe was a back in Grade School at Zobel. I distinctly remember him coming to Zobel on-board a helicopter. He was the System President at the time. As a grade schooler, we made a big fuss about him coming to see us at the time. It's not everyday you get to meet a President of sorts who flew in a helicopter. After that, I didn't get to see him again until I started working at LSGH two years ago. And in those two years I was fortunate enough to get to know the real Br. Rafe. Probably not know him as well as his older students and friends, but I'd like to think I got to know him plenty enough.

I wonder if I have a "right" to grieve for him, seeing that I only knew him for two measly years. But I still can't believe that he's actually gone. I will miss the times I have to go in his office and check on his iBook. I will miss his warm smile and deep-voiced "good morning." I will miss his stories. The office already feels empty without his presence. I'm actually still a bit shaken about this whole ordeal. I'm not even sure if I'm making sense in this post.

We've already posted a statement regarding his death on the official site. Chuck also posted his last recorded video (which was supposed to be his thank you message after his Golden Jubilee last October) on the same page.

whoa.. that last video sounds eerily like his last farewell. his golden jubilee as a brother is also my birthday.

i think this is the first eulogy that you've ever written jing! and very well said, although i hope i don't see you writing any eulogies soon.

its the first time ive seen the lasallian.ph website up. great work bro! but instead of saying 'under construction', why not try stamping the word 'beta' so you can be en vogue. =)
